Woven Wraps

Woven wraps are non-stretchy material used to wrap our babies to our bodies. They come in a variety of lengths and fiber content. There are literally dozens of ways to utilize them to wear infants and small children on our front, hip, and back. Woven wraps are by far the most adjustable and versatile option available, though do take some practice to become confident with. As always, I suggest practicing with a stuffed animal or doll to gain some muscle memory in the movements, also, they are more paitent with us than our babies (though my kids were a special level of velociraptor - ha!)

Lengths/Sizing

Woven wraps come in a variety of sizes. Most folks will start with a “base size” (more on that in a second) and then may add additional wrap sizes based on the specific wrap carries they find most comfortable as some carries will necesitate less or more fabric than your “base size”.

Size 2 - 2.7 Metres
Size 3 - 3.2 Metres
Size 4 - 3.7 Metres
Size 5 - 4.2 Metres
Size 6 - 4.7 Metres
Size 7 - 5.2 Metres
Size 8 - 5.7 Metres

Sizes 2-4 are typically considered short wraps - great for quick carries that have fewer passes
Sizes 5-7 are usually base sizes, the size you will start with for getting started
Sizes 7-9 are longer for folks wanting more length for additional passes and “fancy finishes”

Sizing

When getting started, most folks will start with a “base size” chosen so you can accomplish most standard carries. Using your standard (US) size you can guestimate what size may work best.
Extra Small/Small - Size 5 wrap
Medium/Large - Size 6 wrap
Extra Large/XX Large - Size 7 wrap
XXX Large/ XXXX Large - Size 8 wrap
This is not a perfect science, but a great place to get started!

Getting Started

Once you have your woven wrap, where do you start? Usually I suggest folks start with a carry called the Front Wrap Cross Carry. It uses your base sized wrap, is a front carry, and provides practice for a lot of the foundational stuff for wrapping. You are in charge of your journey, so of course you don’t have to start here, I just personally found it helpful :)
I like to practice new carries with a stuffed animal or doll to get to know where all the parts of the wrap go, then once I am feeling good about it, try it with an actual baby.
